Jacquie's Story

Please tell us about your journey to StayWell, what led you to us, where does your story begin?

"My husband was scheduled for a complex surgery at Toronto Western Hospital to remove an AVM from his brain. With very little time to prepare for our journey, we weren’t able to secure accommodation through StayWell right away. Thankfully, we were able to stay with them for the last six days of our trip, which made a meaningful difference during a very difficult time."

Where did you have to relocate from? How was the journey from home to Toronto?

"We live in northern Ontario, more than six hours away from Toronto. Given the unpredictable December weather and less-than-ideal driving conditions, we decided it would be safer to travel by bus. The journey was long and slow, but we eventually made it to Toronto safely."

What were the things you found difficult? How did StayWell help?

"The three biggest challenges we faced were the cost of accommodation, transportation to and from the hospital, and meal preparation. The apartment I rented through StayWell was very reasonably priced and conveniently located near the streetcar I needed to get to Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, where my husband was undergoing rehabilitation. Having a kitchen in the apartment made it possible for me to prepare meals, and there was even a Longo’s market nearby, which made shopping easy."

What were the positive aspects of your stay?

"The positive aspects of my stay were the affordable accommodation, the convenient location, the cleanliness of the suite, the secure building, and having an en-suite washer and dryer."

Would you recommend StayWell to other patients in need of access to medical care in Toronto?

"Yes."
