Please tell us about your journey to StayWell, what led you to us, where does your story begin?
"Last summer, my family nearly lost my father to a chronic heart and lung issue. As his youngest and most hands-on child, living out of province, I was devastated that I couldn’t be in Toronto right away because I wasn’t able to get time off work. My father, Joseph, is in his late 70s — a cancer survivor who also lives with diabetes and COPD — and this time, he was facing yet another serious health emergency. I was determined to be in Toronto to support him and visit him every day I was there, and I was deeply grateful for the opportunity to do so."
Where did you have to relocate from? How was the journey from home to Toronto?

"As a mental health therapist, I made the decision three years ago to move to Airdrie/Calgary, Alberta in search of better career opportunities. I wanted to build a better life for my wife of nine years and our two boys, who are now six and three years old."
What were the things you found difficult? How did StayWell help?
"What was most difficult for me was that all of my friends are in Toronto, Ontario, which made it hard to fully be there for both my family and friends while managing everything else. My flight was quite expensive, and I hoped that my accommodations wouldn’t add too much to the financial burden. I’m very thankful to StayWell for providing affordable, supportive accommodations during such a challenging time."
What were the positive aspects of your stay?

"One of the positive aspects of my stay was that I didn’t have to spend time searching for the most affordable place to stay. Having accommodations through StayWell made things much simpler, and commuting to and from the hospital was fairly easy as well."
Would you recommend StayWell to other patients in need of access to medical care in Toronto?

"Yes."
