Alana's Story

Please tell us about your journey to StayWell, what led you to us, where does your story begin?

"My journey to StayWell began when my partner was advised that he needed heart surgery in Toronto. The procedure would require him to stay in the hospital for five days, but we quickly realized that the cost of hotels in the area was beyond what we could afford. I started looking into other options and was relieved to find StayWell. It turned out to be the perfect solution for us, offering both convenience and support during a challenging time.”

Where did you have to relocate from? How was the journey from home to Toronto?

"I would have had to drive two hours each day to get to the hospital, which would have been incredibly draining. There were so many events and functions happening in the city during his stay, making the commute even more challenging with traffic and congestion. Managing a long daily drive, especially while dealing with the emotional stress of the situation, would have been overwhelming."

What were the things you found difficult? How did StayWell help?

"One of the biggest challenges I faced was the stress of long commutes. I knew I needed to be close to the hospital, especially given the emotional strain of the situation. StayWell provided me with the perfect solution by offering accommodations within walking distance of the hospital. Being able to walk there in just 15 minutes made such a difference. It removed the stress of  having to drive and allowed me to focus on supporting my partner during his recovery."

What were the positive aspects of your stay?

"One of the biggest positives of my stay was the convenience of being so close to the hospital. I could come and go with ease, which made everything much less stressful. The condo I stayed in was fully equipped, so I could make my own meals and even do my own laundry, which gave me a sense of normalcy. I also slept better knowing I was just a few minutes away from my partner. If anything went wrong, I could be there quickly to support him, which brought me a lot of peace of mind during a very difficult time."

Would you recommend StayWell to other patients in need of access to medical care in Toronto?

"Yes."
