Michelle's Story
A Grateful Family from PEI

Please tell us about your journey to StayWell, what led you to us, where does your story begin?

"We first heard about StayWell through our local hospital Foundation in Prince Edward Island. Our home province was looking for ways to support our families medical travel needs as both our daughter and myself require frequent travel to Toronto. Adeline a patient with Toronto Sick Kids, and myself a Stage 4 cancer thriver with a sarcoma specialist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. With a simple message to StayWell led to prompt communication and support making our travel plans with ease. We were so grateful to have access to an easy process as we were gearing up for a surgery for our young daughter."

Where did you have to relocate from? How was the journey from home to Toronto?

"We relocated from Cornwall, PEI. We flew from YYG airport to Ottawa, and then Ottawa to Toronto. We were quite tired from our traveling but from the moment we arrived, everything felt thoughtfully organized. The check-in process was seamless—especially thanks to the YouTube video guiding us through getting our key. That little touch made a big difference after a long day of travel."

What were the things you found difficult? How did StayWell help?

"The rental unit itself was in a beautiful building filled with incredible amenities. It wasn’t just clean and safe—it was also fun. Having access to a pool, gym, and even just a five-minute walk to the hospital gave our family a small sense of normal during a very abnormal time. The apartment was so comfortable. The beds were cozy, the sheets incredibly smooth, and we slept so well during our two-week stay. The balcony gave us a peaceful place to step out, breathe some fresh air, and watch the city go by—something that offered unexpected comfort during our long days."

What were the positive aspects of your stay?

"The StayWell team was always responsive and kind. Any questions we had were answered quickly and with care. One of the biggest stress relievers was knowing our check-out date could be flexible. With surgery recoveries, discharge dates can be unpredictable, and that flexibility gave us room to breathe and focus on our daughter, not deadlines. StayWell also worked with our province to coordinate billing directly, which meant we didn’t have to juggle paperwork or financial stress during a tough time. They truly work with families and their budgets to make this support accessible. As a mom living with Stage 4 cancer myself, I know I’ll need to access their services again during my own visits to the cancer centre. Just knowing that StayWell is only a phone call or email away brings me incredible peace of mind. We are so deeply grateful for the care, comfort, and kindness StayWell provided during one of the hardest chapters of our lives. Thank you for being there—for making a space that felt like home, when we needed it most."

Would you recommend StayWell to other patients in need of access to medical care in Toronto?
